What’s the difference between therapy and counseling?

While often used interchangeably:

  • Counseling tends to focus on specific issues and short-term goals
  • Therapy (or psychotherapy) explores patterns and deeper emotional concerns for long-term growth

Both are effective depending on your needs.

Do I need therapy?

If you’re asking, it’s worth exploring. Therapy supports mental clarity, emotional resilience, and healthier relationships. You don’t need a crisis to benefit—many seek help for stress, life transitions, or personal insight.

When should I consider starting therapy?

You might benefit from therapy if you’re experiencing:

  • Persistent stress or anxiety
  • Relationship challenges
  • Grief or unresolved trauma
  • Feeling overwhelmed or stuck

Therapy is a proactive step toward healing and clarity.

Is counseling effective for anxiety?

Absolutely. We use evidence-based methods tailored to your needs. These may include:

  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) – to help reframe unhelpful thought patterns
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) – particularly effective for trauma and anxiety
  • Brainspotting – a cutting-edge approach that uses visual and body-based cues to access and heal deep emotional pain
  • IFS (Internal Family Systems)IFS is a way of framing our internal experience to differentiate between “parts” of us and how they affect our responses and our engagement with the world.

  • Therapeutic style (insight-oriented, directive, warm, etc.)
  • Connection during your first session

We offer a supportive intake process to help you find a therapist who aligns with your needs and personality.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Everything discussed in therapy is strictly confidential, within the limits of the law. We’re committed to protecting your privacy and creating a safe, judgment-free environment.

Can I switch therapists if it’s not a good fit?
