You’ve been struggling for a while now.

Most days have some semblance of a routine. It’s when waves of sadness or sense of failure come that it all becomes darker. Pushing such feelings down is the only way to keep going.

But internal messages of stupidity and worthlessness are getting louder and more critical. Stomach knots tighten and shoulder tension intensifies. Relief never seems to come.

These are recognized symptoms of depression, not character flaws, and not permanent.

Discouraged. Drained. Overwhelmed.

Efforts made to feel better have fallen flat, resulting in more frustration and hopelessness.

The longing for something better keeps thoughts spinning inside your head, but no answers come. Underneath all the busyness and effort a sense of knowing that it’s supposed to be better lingers.

It’s the quiet whisper of this sense of knowing that has led you here.

What You’re Really Looking For

  • To feel better.
  • That purpose and meaning can come from hard places.
  • That connection with others can fill the emptiness inside.
  • That love and acceptance will satisfy the lonely parts of your heart.

Your Hope Will Take Root Here And Here Is Exactly How

It’s in the safety of the therapeutic relationship that internal struggles can finally be named, not just managed. Together we look at the patterns running through your life, not to label them, but to understand what they’ve been trying to protect you from.

My name is Sheila Porter, MA, NCC, LPC. I’ve been doing this work in Castle Rock long enough to know that most people who find their way here have already tried to figure things out on their own and are exhausted from it.

I became a therapist because of my own life. Twenty-five years of marriage, raising children, navigating the hard places that don’t show up in any parenting book. Those experiences live in the room with me when I sit with a client. That’s not a liability. That’s the foundation of everything I do.

My clinical training backs it: a Master’s degree in counseling, advanced certifications in EMDR, Brainspotting, and the Safe and Sound Protocol, and licensure as both an LPC and National Certified Counselor. Lived experience and clinical rigor both, not one or the other.

What Does Individual Therapy at Lifetouch Counseling Look Like?

Individual therapy at Lifetouch Counseling in Castle Rock, CO is built around one core commitment: that you feel genuinely seen, heard, and felt – not managed. I trained specifically in EMDR, Brainspotting, and the Safe and Sound Protocol – a treatment recognized by the American Psychological Association for trauma – because I kept seeing clients who were doing everything right in talk therapy and still couldn’t move.

These modalities reach what words don’t.

I don’t run sessions from a protocol sheet. Every session is built around what you bring into the room that day, because healing isn’t linear, and I’ve sat with enough people to know that forcing a framework onto someone’s pain usually just teaches them to perform recovery instead of experience it.

A Note from Sheila

“People often ask me how long therapy takes. My honest answer: it depends less on how severe the problem is and more on how long it’s been running underground.

Some clients move quickly. Others need more time to build safety first, and that’s not a setback. That’s the work.“

Who Is Individual Therapy at Lifetouch Right For?

Most of the people I work with have already tried to manage this on their own and they’re good at it. They’re high-functioning, often the person everyone else leans on.

What brings them to therapy isn’t a crisis. It’s the quiet exhaustion of carrying something no one else can see.

Individual therapy at Lifetouch is a good fit if you’re navigating:

  • Depression – persistent low mood, worthlessness, the inability to feel relief
  • Anxiety – the spinning thoughts, the body tension, the dread that has no single cause
  • Life transitions – career shifts, relationship changes, the loss of who you thought you’d be by now
  • Trauma – past experiences that still run the show in your present life

Research suggests the average person waits more than a decade between first symptoms and treatment. You don’t have to wait that long.

Clinical Note

Depression, anxiety, and the aftermath of trauma often arrive together – not as separate conditions but as a single experience with multiple faces. At Lifetouch, I don’t treat the diagnosis. I work with the person in front of me – which means we follow what’s most alive in the room, not what’s listed on an intake form.

Frequently Asked Questions About Individual Therapy in Castle Rock

Does individual therapy at Lifetouch treat depression and anxiety?

Yes. Individual therapy at Lifetouch Counseling is designed specifically for adults navigating depression, anxiety, life transitions, and trauma. Rather than treating a diagnosis in isolation, Sheila works with the full picture of what you’re experiencing using EMDR, Brainspotting, and the Safe and Sound Protocol where talk therapy alone isn’t enough.

What can I expect in my first individual therapy session?

Your first session is a conversation, not an assessment. Sheila listens to what brought you in, asks about the patterns you’ve noticed, and begins building the kind of relationship where real work becomes possible. There is no intake questionnaire to perform. You don’t need to have your story organized before you arrive.

How is Lifetouch Counseling different from other therapists in Castle Rock?

Sheila Porter, MA, NCC, LPC holds advanced training in three trauma-processing modalities EMDR, Brainspotting, and the Safe and Sound Protocol and brings over 25 years of personal life experience to her clinical work. She is both a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor, a designation held by fewer than 10% of therapists nationally. Sessions are relational, attuned, and built around your pace not a protocol.

Do I need a diagnosis to start individual therapy?

No. Most people who begin therapy at Lifetouch don’t arrive with a formal diagnosis they arrive exhausted, stuck, or carrying something they haven’t been able to name. A diagnosis is never required to begin. What matters is that something isn’t working and you’re ready to look at it.
